SASSY  DOXIES

We are Charie and Steve Barry.   Until last year, we lived in the city of Neenah, WI.  with a fenced in back yard. We have now moved to a 7 acre farm near Winchester,WI.   Even though we now have lots of room, the move has not changed the way we keep our dogs. They are still house dogs, and live in the house with us. We have our own ideas about how puppies should be raised. If you visit us, you will not find kennels. We, for the most part, don't even use crates. (we have nothing against using them, but we just try to get along without them.) Our puppies are raised in our living room. I built a large enclosure for them, and they provide much more entertainment than the TV. Normally, in a puppy raising situation, the male dog will not be anywhere near his puppies. In our situation, our male dogs love puppies. They are ready to play with the puppies as much as mom dog will let them. We think this male influence aides in raising well adjusted puppies. All of our other dogs enjoy supervised playtime with the puppies. If you get a puppy from us, he/she will be comfortable playing with gentle, adult dogs.

You will notice that in addition to our dachshunds, we also have a bloodhound. It just seemed like an old farm needs a big dog. I have always wanted a Bloodhound, and we decided to take on the challenge of raising one. Bubba is quite a handful. He is now 11months old, and weighs over 80 pounds. He is really fun to have around. The dachshunds all like him and play with him. That isn't really surprising, because dachshunds don't seem to know that they are little dogs, and love to play even as adults. In talking with Tia Gross, the breeder where we got Bubba, she says that bloodhounds don't seem to realize they are BIG.

If you are looking for a show dog, another breeder would probably be best for you. We do our best to raise healthy, intelligent, well adjusted dogs with good AKC pedigrees, but we don't like dog shows very much, and so we have no real desire to enter them. We prefer to sell our puppies as pets to people who will treat their new puppies as we treat our dogs. Even if you never plan to enter your dog  in a dog show, however, it is important to get a quality dog. An AKC pedigree, although not a guarantee of a great dog, is a good indication that you are looking for a puppy in the right place.
